MEET EVANGELIST SONYA KATES

A native of Evansville, Indiana, Sonya spent most of her childhood years in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Lansing, Michigan. After graduating from high school she attended Naomi Simms Modeling and Finishing School. She received the "Model of the Year" award for "Most Outstanding Model" and in the same year received an award for best clothes designer. Life on the road traveling to different states performing was very exciting for her. Sonya relocated to Los Angeles, California, and convinced the famous legendary Redd Foxx she had talent. The company "Redd Foxx Productions" selected her to join his houseband "Border Line." Three years later, she relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sonya performed with several local jazz fusion groups and was featured in the Skyway Newspaper as "Miss. Skyway." She had the pleasure of singing and playing her conga drums at the "Minnesota Black Music Awards," and performed with famous recording artists. Sonya, organized and performed in "We Are The Privileged" the first All-Female Benefit Concert for the Homeless, which will long be remembered for the 17 All-Female All Star Jam held at the famous Glam Slam Night Club. She managed to bring together 17 female musicians and vocalists (including herself performing on the conga drums) onto one stage. The event was a money making success. Her second benefit concert "Share The Love," was held at the Historic State Theater. Sonya, managed to bring together 32 professional female musicians and vocalists along with a fashion show and dancers to round out the full female production. The proceeds went to a local community center.

Sonya is an independent faith believer. She can organize an event, direct and produce, she is a musician, camera and video editor, songwriter, performs on conga drums, djembe drums, and other miscellaneous percussion instruments.

In 1994, Sonya Kates aka VeeJay Sonnie K., launched the public access television show "Gospel Noize!" The program aired weekly on cablevision in Lansing MI. In 2001, she won the public access Cable Award for "Excellence In Programming."

Sonya is a 2011 graduate of ITT Technical Institute Online and holds an associates of applied science degree in criminal justice. In addition, she has been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Sonya is a member of the American Criminal Justice Association, Lambda Alpha Epsilon. She will continue her educational journey at Florida Tech University Online, pursuing a BA degree in Psychology/Child Advocacy.

Her Faith Based Goal: To open a Specialty School for at risk youth in the juvenile justice system.

MEN JOIN TOGETHER CONFERENCE 2011 * RECAP

If you missed the Men Join Together Conference 2011, don't fret, look forward to attending this exciting series of Men joining together to talk about their life experiences in 2012!

Recently, we attended the Men Join Together Conference 2011, which was hosted at North Park Branch Library in Evansville, Indiana. The theme was "Men Join Together: Which One Are You?" Are you a Filler, Watcher, Teacher, Seeker, or Messenger. The room filled quickly with people who wanted to be there. The seating was set in theater style, and a overhead screen mounted on the wall displayed pictures and biography's of all the men who would be speaking. The audience was a mixture of young and old from all walks of life. Although, the target was focused on men, there were women present, as well. Two women in particular served organic coffee and tea. There were a total of six African American men who poured out their hearts about their personal life experiences, and elaborated on the character that they felt best represented them. For instance, one gentlemen chose the Filler, and describe what a filler was from a football player's point of view. Another, describe himself as a Messenger, and shared biblical teachings to reach the audience. Whereas, one used a simple potato to describe life as a Teacher. The highlight of the event was expressed from the keynote speaker who traveled from Indianapolis, Indiana, to join this special group of men. He illustrated himself as being a Seeker and used a photo image of a maze to pin-point his walk through life. Other highlights of the event were the testimonies of men who had been diagnosed with illnesses, and others who suffered severe bodily injuries, a gunshot wound to the body, a severe head injury, and survivor of cancer. It was continuous testimonies greeted with applause's from the audience. The evening ended with a special presentation of Certificates of Appreciation for "Men Mentoring Men," awarded to all of the guest speakers. The overall event was very professional, and extremely pleasant. After attending this wonderful event, everyone including the public was invited to attend a fellowship dinner at a local restaurant.

It was a beautiful sunny day and over twenty-five men joined together on the South Side of Evansville to canvass the area to deter future gang violence. Each group had four to five men, some headed southbound and others headed westbound in local neighborhoods. One woman was in attendance, as well.

On Saturday, October 8, 2011, a group of men throughout the community gathered together in prayer on the South Side of Evansville, Indiana. The mission was to canvass the area to deter future gang violence. Over several church leaders were involved in the march and witnessed to individuals throughout the community. It is a true saying that "Strength is in numbers," and hopefully, this group of dedicated men will continue to bond and reclaim the neighborhoods for God's glory.

And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

St. Matthew 2:19-20

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

There is a wicked spirit of King Herod dwelling in the land today. When you hear of children being killed for no reason throughout the world, it is disturbing if you are a true child of God. For example, children were found dead off the shores of China, strangers freely walked into schools un-announced killing not adults, but children, and vaccines killing children, cannot be explained. Other places like, Africa, Brazil and various areas in Mexico, target children and kill them. What is going on?

We need to pray for our children daily. Stop! the spirit of King Herod, who runs rapidly throughout the land today.

Jesus Christ said in his words "Suffer not the little children to come unto me."

Why are the children suffering? What have you done for God, lately, to stop the killings of children? One answer is, prayer.

Pray, that our young people will stop being targeted, and placed in over crowded jail cells for life, and for non violent offenses.

Pray, that our youth are not put into jail cells with child abusers, and thugs.

Pray, that children around the world are not exploited and sold as slaves into human trafficking.

Pray, that Americans, will love their children, and not let them crawl into on-coming traffic, due to neglect.

Pray, that foster children are not looked upon as just an extra meal ticket to pay rent, or get food stamps to fill others bellies.

Pray, that our children are not snatched away from their mothers for scientific experiments.

Pray, not prey

Pray, not prey on our children.

Prayer, changes things.

Amen.
